Burnaby player off to a strong start in NCAA college baseball

Outfielder Brent Lawrence led the Northern State University Wolves offensively at the Russ Matt collegiate invitational baseball tournament in Tucson, Arizona, going a blistering 12-for-28 at the plate.

Lawrence scored 11 runs along with six runs batted in as Northern State went a perfect four-for-four on the week. The Burnaby senior also drew five walks and was hit by a pitch twice, good for a team leading .600 on-base-percentage. Lawrence also stole six bases and tallied one home run and two triples.

The 22-year-old Lawrence closed out the final games of the week, going two-for-four against Malone University of Ohio before hitting a perfect five-for-five with two doubles in a losing effort against Morningside College of Iowa. Lawrence was named player of the week for Northern State in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Lawrence played his minor baseball with the Burnaby Minor Baseball Association and the Coquitlam Reds of the B.C. Premier League before joining the Douglas College Royals of the Northwest Athletic Collegiate Conference.
