Simon Fraser University softball pitcher Cara Lukawesky has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference pitcher of the week.
"My performance last weekend would not have happened without the defence playing strong behind me and the offence putting us in a position to win," said Lukawesky. "I think the success of this past weekend can really be attributed to being a more experienced pitcher now, working hard in the off season and working hard in practice."
The junior chucker was outstanding for the Clan at the Desert Stinger in Las Vegas, posting three wins and adding a save in SFU's 2-1 win over Lewis University.
"I am pleased to see Cara recognized for her performance that also is shared by the defence behind her along with the offensive support she received," said head coach Mike Renney. "Without a doubt Cara will be a key figure in our team's success so her good start to the season is a great sign."
In 19 2/3 innings pitched, Lukawesky allowed 25 hits and 10 runs, carving out a 2.85 earned run average.
Lukawesky and the Clan will be back on the field this Wednesday when the team visits Hope International in Fullerton, California.
