St. Thomas More Collegiate student Kevin Vigna finished in a tie for 12th place at the B.C. amateur golf championships in Swan-e-set Bay Resort Club on Friday.
Vigna shot a fourround, eight-over-par 296 in the final field of 76 golfers to finish 16 shots back of champion Riley Fleming of Alberta. Fleming shot a three-under 69 on the final day to finish at eightunder-par 280.
Brian Jung of Coquitlam placed three shots back of the leader, while Kevin Kwon, playing on his home Swan-e-set course, was third with a three-under 285.
Michael Belle of Burnaby was 18 shots behind the leader at 306. Alan Tolusso of Burnaby missed the cut.
GOALIE TO COACH
Burnaby Minor product Sheldon Baerg was named an assistant coach with the Red Deer Vipers Junior B hockey team.
Baerg played college hockey at Concordia University in Montreal and graduated with a business degree. He also spent a season in Australia with the Sydney Bears.
Baerg has been coaching goalies in the Lower Mainland for the past eight summers

The Fraser River Delta boys' basketball team settled for the silver medal at the B.C. Summer Games.
The Zone 4 team, including Matt Veltkamp, Michael Fischer, Malik Holmes, Stanley Ho and Corky Smith, all of Burnaby, shared in the second-place finish following a 73-64 overtime loss to Zone 3's Vancouver-Squamish team in the championship final. The local boys finished with a 4-1 record at the Games.
