Burnaby North teen Briannah Tsang will be among 12 artistic gymnasts looking to win a spot on Canada's women's team for the Olympics.

Tsang will take part in the Olympic team's final selection camp in Gatineau, Que., which takes place from June 24 to 28.

Tsang, who specializes in the vault, will join B.C. and Flicka Gym Club partner Brittany Rogers at the meet.

AWARD OF MERIT

Burnaby Edmonds' Doug Ross was a recent recipient of an Award of Merit from B.C. Soccer at the association's recent annual awards.

BACK FROM TOUR

Excel Soccer Academy returned from a recent showcase tour of Europe with a couple of wins to show for it.

The academy team of 10-and 11-year-old players from Burnaby, Coquitlam, Kelowna, Maple Ridge, Port Coquitlam, Vancouver and West Vancouver played two matches in England before finishing off the tour with five matches in six days against top academy clubs in Italy.

The tourists opened on the continent with a 7-0 win over Cittadella and followed that up with a 4-2 victory over Bologna. The B.C. team also posted two close losses in the final days of its two-week tour -a 6-4 loss to Verona Hellas and a 4-3 defeat to Bescia Vernona.

The Excel academy club also played exhibition matches against top youth academy teams Inter Milan, and Coventry City and Tottenham in England.

Excel will be recruiting for its 2013 travel team to San Marino in August. For more information about the academy and its programs, go to www.excelsoccer.net.

PROVINCIAL CUPS

The B.C. Soccer Premier Cup semifinal playdowns, from under-13 to u-18, will take place this Saturday and Sunday at various Lower Mainland venues.

The provincial cup finals will be held in both boys' and girls' divisions at Minoru Park in Richmond on June 30 and July 1.

The youth Provincial A and B Cups will play off the following weekend in the Interior.

Kamloops will host the A Cup in a four-team round robin format.

Kelowna is the venue for the boys' and girls' Provincial B Cup.
