The St. Thomas More Knights placed five players on this year's B.C. high school provincial football all-star squad.
STM defensive end Dante Vigini was named the MVP on defence. Vigini led the league in quarterback sacks this season.
Joining Vigini on the all-defensive team were teammates Elliott Nelson at linebacker and Jalen Jana at defensive back. Anthony Quatrano of Burnaby was also named to the provincial team from Notre Dame at defensive back.
On offence, STM wide receiver Malcolm Lee and Nico Repole were named to the all-province team.
Mt. Douglas running back Marcus Davis was named player of the year. W.J. Mouat running back Maleek Irons was named MVP on offence.
FIRST CAREER SHUTOUT
Freshman goalie Kimberly Newell of Burnaby recorded her first career shutout in NCAA Division I women's hockey for the Princeton Tigers.
Newell, who was also named last week to Canada's national team for the upcoming world's under-18 championships in Finland, stopped all 19 shots directed her way in Princeton's 3-0 win over Union on Nov. 30.
BIKE RACING IS BACK
World class cycling will return to the Burnaby Velodrome with the Superior Glass 4-Day event to be held later this month.
Canada's women's team pursuit team, including Olympic bronze medallist Gillian Carleton, will highlight a roster that includes Tour de France and Giro d' Italia stage winner and U.S. Olympian Tyler Farrar.
The four-day event will be held from Dec. 27 to 30 at the velodrome.
Tickets will be sold at the door for $5. Kids under 10 will be admitted free.
