St. Thomas More Collegiate grad Michael Belle of Burnaby placed tied for 29th with a twoover 290. Belle shot a 67 on Day 2 of the competition.

David Rose of West Vancouver won the event with a 13-under-par 275 total.

A COOL MILLION

Burnaby Joe Sakic made a quick $1 million at a celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

The former Colorado Avalanche star aced the par-3 17th hole at the American Century celebrity championship on July 17, pocketing half the holein-one prize money with an eight iron on the 162yard waterfront hole of the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

The other $500,000 will go to the tournament sponsor's charity Lance Armstrong's Livestrong Foundation for cancer research.

ALL-STAR IN 7S

Burnaby Lake Rugby Club's Fuku Vikilani was named an all-star following the first-ever under-18 Victoria International Sevens rugby event on July 16.

B.C.'s u-17 team gave up a last-minute try to fall 17-12 to Ontario in the championship final.

WHEN Y'ER A JET

Kenndal McArdle signed a one-year deal with the Winnipeg Jets. McArdle would reportedly earn a NHL salary of $600,000 if he makes the team.

McArdle has played a total of 33 NHL games since going pro in 2007. He spent the bulk of last season with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, scoring 14 goals and putting up 106 penalty minutes.

MANTAS MEDAL

Deryck-James Tsang had first-, second-and third-place finish for the Burnaby Mountain Mantas at the North Vancouver Cruisers summer swim meet on July 9.

Kenneth Ng and Hannah Cui also came home with wins in their respective age divisions.

Bryan Yu and Bryan Cheung were also multimedallists at the meet.

TO WEST GAMES

Anthony Cusati and Alex Owen, two members of the North Shore Twins of the B.C. premier junior league, were named to Team B.C. for the Western Canada Summer Games in Kamloops Aug. 5 to 15.

In wrestling, Burnaby Central Secondary's Amar Dhesi was selected to the Summer Games team at 115 kilograms.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Former Burnaby Express and WHL defenceman Dave Dotan committed to the Simon Fraser University men's ice hockey team.
