Burnaby swimmer makes finals at Zajac meet

Recent UBC commitment won a bronze medal in the men's 400 metre individual medley at international meet

Burnaby’s Hau-Li Fan won a bronze medal and made four finals at the recent Mel Zajac Jr. International swim meet at the UBC Aquatic Centre.

Fan, who committed to the University of British Columbia just weeks earlier, placed third in the men’s 400-metre individual medley, finishing just six seconds behind the winning swim by Ontario’s Tristan Cote. The 17-year-old Fan clocked a 4:35.09 time in the race.

Fan also placed fourth in the 200m IM in a time of 2:09.04, fifth in the 200m backstroke in 2:07.77 and seventh in the 200m butterfly in 2:08.52.

Another Burnaby swimmer, Stefan Milosevic finished fourth in the men’s 200m freestyle in a time of 1:54.59.

Two Hyack Swim Club members also made finals. Stella Jin was fifth in the women’s 50m fly, while Mia Bottrill placed sixth in the women’s 200m fly.
