Burnaby thrower preps for London Games

Curtis Moss of Burnaby warmed up for his first-ever appearance at the Olympic Summer Games, winning the men's javelin throw in Toronto on July 11.

The 25-year-old athlete won the event on his second throw over local B.C. rival Kyle Neilson but improved in distance on each of his final three throws, winning the event with a final toss of 77.07 metres at the final National Track League meet in the Ontario capital.

With the win, Moss also captured the NTL aggregate javelin title over Nielson with 38 points.

Moss will compete in the javelin at the London Games, beginning with the men's qualifying on Aug. 8. The men's final is scheduled for Aug. 11.
