The Simon Fraser University men's basketball team was five wins better than in its inaugural NCAA Division II season.
The varsity Clan dropped back-to-back Great Northwest confernence games at home, falling 104-75 to Seattle Pacific on Saturday after a 94-74 defeat to Montana State- Billings on Feb. 23.
"It was definitely a tough one. They (Seattle Pacific) are a good team, ranked third in the league, with a lot of size," said graduating senior Connor Lewis in a Clan press release. "We're playing with seven guys that are all technically guards and that made it hard to match up against them."
All three graduating seniors, including Justin Brown and Zack Frehlick, led the team in scoring.
Lewis led the way with 20 points, while Brown and Frehlick added 16 and 15 points, respectively.
In the earlier game, Brown scored a team-high 21 points and Jordan Sergent chipped in with 20 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
SFU finished its second season in the NCAA with an 8-18 overall record, including 3-15 in conference play.
"A lot of people look at our record and think we didn't accomplish anything this yeasr, but what we did as a team, playing with such a small number of guys for most of the year is unbelievable," said Frehlick. "Thanks to every member of this team. What we built this season is going to be around for years to come."
The Clan had five more victories this year than in its inaugural season in the Great Northwest league.
