The Burnaby Devlis won the Tier 2 under-14 Richmond Roadrunner Romp field lacrosse tournament played last weekend.

Burnaby won a thrilling gold-medal final 9-7 against the Bellingham Stealheads.

Tavin Grant led the way with three goals, while Josh Dumont chipped in with a pair in the championship final. Mack Burns, Joel Sinclair, Tristan Dalin, and Liam Smith also tallied for the Devils.

The final was a see-saw battle with Burnaby trailing most of the first half before tying the game 5-5 at the break. But solid defense from Robert French, Tate Wallace, Brendan Zaph, Brent Rittenburger, and goaltending from Brandon Toor shut down the Seelheads in the second frame.

There was outstanding mid-fielder play from Burns, Grant, Dumont, Lucas Olheiser, Mitch Darazio and Sinclair were outstanding in the midfield. Attack men Sam Harper, Brady French, Smith and Dalin kept the Stealhead long poles on their toes all game long. Burns was also outstanding on face offs and Grant kept Bellingham mystified all game long with his penetrating attacks.

The u-14 squad started round-robin play with a convincing 9-1 win over Ridge Meadows, and followed it up with a 10-1 victory over Seattle Starz, and an 18-3 romp over Delta. Burnaby qualified first in the division and defeated a mid-Island team 15-4 in semifinal play.

Individual game stars throughout the tournament were Smith, Grant, Darazio, French, and Toor.

The Richmond Romp is the premier field lacrosse tournament in the Pacific Northwest with teams travelling from the B.C. Interior, Vancouver Island and Washington State.
