Burnaby Winter Club place second at Tier 2 hockey provincials

The Burnaby Winter Club had to settle for a silver medal at the B.C. Hockey bantam Tier 2 provincial championships in Trail on Wednesday.

The A2 Bruins gave up a goal in the opening minute of overtime to Campbell River to finish second overall following a 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Island club.

Alexander Rasovic, with assists from Jake Kryski and Devan Purhar, broke open a scoreless game in the final period to put Burnaby up 1-0.

But with less than six minutes left in the period, Campbell River knotted the score on a goal by Grady McInnes. Josh Coblenz tallied the game-winner after just 33 seconds of overtime for Campbell River.

The winter club advanced to the gold-medal final with a 3-1 victory over host Rossland-Trail. Liam Griffin, Andreas Siagris and Kennessary Kylyshbek, with his fourth goal of the provincials. Campbell River got by Cranbrook 4-3 in the other semifinal.

Burnaby edged Campbell River in preliminary play on March 19, taking advantage of third-period penalties to post a 3-2 win on goals by Kryski, Siagris and Carmine Buono.

The Bruins clinched the B pool with a resounding 10-1 win over Fort St. John, including six counters in the first period.

The winter club opened the Tier 2 tournament with a 5-3 loss to Westside.
