Andrew Morris of Burnaby committed to the Simon Fraser University men's basketball team this week.
Morris stands 6-5 and played high school basketball with St. Thomas More Collegiate.
"He's a talented local product who has played numerous positions at the high school level," said Clan head coach James Blake. "He has great basketball instincts and knows how to score. He'll need to get a little stronger to play at this level, but he's been coached very well and we feel he has the tools to develop into a good player for us."
Last season at St. Thomas More, Morris averaged 20.1 points per game, 7.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists.
"I'm a pretty tall guard who can shoot and drive," said Morris. "I'm working on improving my athleticism and trying to become a better defender. My game is very offensive so I want to work on being a more complete player."
Last season, Morris was named the most valuable player at the Chancellor tournament, which he helped St. Thomas More win.
"SFU's basketball program is on the rise and I'm excited to be a part of that. I know a lot of players and have heard great things about coach Blake. SFU really fits me academically and athletically," added Morris.
In the championship game at the Chancellor, Morris hit a last-second three-pointer to send the game into overtime.
"This summer I'm planning to hit the weight room. I want to get bigger and stronger to help me transition to the NCAA game. It's a big step and I think I'm ready to take it," said Morris.
