Burnaby’s Andy Luo was as hot as the weather last week in capturing the bantam boys title at the Maple Junior Tour’s 12th annual Odlum Brown Classic-PGA of B.C. Junior Championship in Surrey.
He was the lone golfer to post sub-70 rounds on each day, winning by 10 shots.
The 14-year-old Luo staked out an early lead then ran away with it, behind back-to-back rounds of 66 on the par-72 course.
On each round, he registered one eagle, including on the par-4 fourth hole on the opening day. Shooting 69 behind five birdies, he grabbed a two-stroke lead after one day.
The best was yet to come, as Luo ramped it up on Day 2 with an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole and a sizzling 32 over the front nine. Coupled with five birdies and just one bogey, Luo finished the second day with a six-under par 66.
On the final day, he equalled that with six birdies and an eagle on the 12th hole, with a second consecutive round of six-under par, and 201 over three days.
His nearest competitor, Billy Zhang of Coquitlam, was 10 strokes back.
Placing in a tie for fourth was Leo Harper, also of Burnaby, who registered rounds of 74, 75 and 71 for a three-day total of 220.
In the boys peewee division, Burnaby’s Jay Xu finished in a tie for fifth at 232 (78, 74, 80), 17 shots back of divisional winner Justin Bjornson of Surrey.
