BWC to host newest Jr. A team in exhibition game

The junior A Express will take on the Wenatchee Wild on Sept. 3 at the winter club at 7:10 p.m.

The Coquitlam Express will be playing an exhibition game against newest British Columbia Hockey club at the Burnaby Winter Club next month.

The junior A Express will take on the Wenatchee Wild on Sept. 3 at the winter club, 4990 Canada Way at 7:10 p.m.

All Burnaby Winter Club members will be admitted free to the game if they are wearing their hockey jersey and bring a non-perishable food item to the ticket gate. All others will be admitted for $5.

The Wild are entering their first BCHL season, and are the 17th team to join the league and the first U.S.-based team since the Bellingham Ice Hawks, which operated from 1990 to 1995.

The Wild played for the previous seven seasons in the North American Hockey League and had a winning record every year. Wenatchee will play in the league’s Mainland Division with the Express.

Express head coach and general manager Barry Wolff says, the reason we wanted to have a game at BWC is to promote our league and showcase the talent level.

“The Express are the community’s team and even though we play our regular season home games at the Poirier Sports Complex, we want to reach out to all surrounding communities. All should feel part of our team. We are very excited to play a game at BWC and we thank the BWC for all their hard work and efforts.

The Coquitlam Express opens its 2015 training camp on Aug. 24 at the Poirier Sports Complex.

Coquitlam opens the exhibition season on Aug. 27.
