The Hofstra University Pride men’s lacrosse player wrapped up his college career with a bounty of hardware, after being named the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association’s Player of the Year, an All-CAA first team all-star, and selected to the USILA Div. 1 All-American third team.
The 23-year-old Burnaby senior Lakers sniper was also named an Inside Lacrosse Div. 1 Media All-America honourable mention, and chosen for the North team for the USILA senior All-Star Game, played last weekend.
In 2017, he led Hofstra with 41 goals and 25 assists for 66 points in 14 games. The team finished with an 11-3 record and was ranked 16th in the nation. He posted 10 multi-goal games during the year, including scoring three or more goals on eight occasions.
Recognized with a handful of Player of the Week awards, Byrne wrapped up his two-year stint with the Pride – he transferred in from Nassau Community College, where he earned the NJCAA’s 2015 Attackman of the Year after scoring 76 goals in 12 games – on a 19-game point streak.
His Hofstra career numbers are 71 goals and 40 assists over 29 games.
As a rookie last year with the Lakers, Byrne tallied 10 goals and 14 assists during the seven-game semifinal series with Victoria.
