Canada's under-18 men's hockey team won the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup for a seventh straight time.
The national teen team scored four times in a 13-minute span in the first period and then coasted to a 6-2 victory over the co-host Czech Republic on Saturday.
Canada has won the gold medal at the Hlinka Cup tournament since its inception in 2008. This year, the Canadians, including Burnaby Winter Club product Mathew Barzal, Adam Musil and former Northwest Giants Jansen Harkins, went 5-0 in cup play, outscoring the combined opposition 32-10.
Canada has lost just two games at the summer tournament over that seven-year span.
Barzal finished second overall in player scoring with two goals and four assists, one point behind teammate Mitchell Marner. Jansen also registered two goals and four helpers at the tourney. Musil had a goal and two helpers.
Canada opened with a 5-1 win over Switzerland and then topped Sweden and Slovakia by an identical 5-1 score.
In the semifinals, Canada blasted the United States 11-5 in the semifinals.
Harkins had a three-point game against the Americans, including a goal. Barzal and Musil also scored in the win over the U.S.
Goalie left off development team roster
In other national team hockey news, Kimberly Newell failed to make the roster of the Canada national women's development team roster for a three-game series against the U.S., following last week's camp in Calgary.
Newell, who was the youngest of five goalies invited to the development team camp, posted the third-best .917 save percentage in the three-game intrasquad games, stopping 33 of 36 shots on goal and finishing with a 2.98 goals against average in two games more than 60 minutes played.
