Stefan Milosevic of Burnaby will represent Canada for the first time following a strong showing at the Canadian summer nationals senior swim meet in Edmonton.
The 16-year-old Cariboo Hill Secondary student finished a best sixth place in the men's long course 200-metre race. Milosevic's time of 1: 51.74 obliterated the Hyack Swim Club records held by two former Olympians.
Milosevic's time bettered the club's age-group record in the 200 free set by 1980 Olympian Eugene Gyorfi. It also beat Bruce Berger's senior Hyack record at the distance.
Milosevic also made the final of the men's 400m individual medley and the B finals in the 400m free and 200m IM.
"He's got a lot more room left for a young boy, but he's setting himself up well," said Hyacks swim coach Mark Bottrill. "He certainly wants to be an Olympian."
The Burnaby teen will swim for Team Canada at the Junior Pan Pacific Games, which takes place in Hawaii in August.
Burnaby's Sherry Liu also made the Pan-Pac team, but declined the opportunity in order to prepare for the beginning of her university swim career at Harvard in September.
The 18-year-old Liu made the podium in three women's freestyle races, including gold in the 800m free in a winning time of 8: 49.74. She also placed runner-up in both the 200 and 400m free.
Simon Fraser University-bound breaststroker Mariya Chekanovych was another named to the national team for the Pan Pac meet following the summer nationals.
The 17-year-old Chekanovych finished fourth in both the 100 and 200m breast.
The age group nationals follow in Calgary.
