Clan claim two more athlete of the week winners

Simon Fraser University football receiver Lemar Durant was named the Red Lion offensive player of the week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Simon Fraser University football receiver Lemar Durant was named the Red Lion offensive player of the week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The 6-2, Clan wide receiver hauled in 12 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns in SFU's 58-47 win over the Dixie State College Red Storm.

Durant tied a conference single-game record for most touchdown receptions and his total yardage was just eight yards shy of the conference single-game mark.

Durant had touchdown catches of 10, 73, 27 and six yards from Clan quarterback Trey Wheeler, who threw six TDs to also set a new conference record.

Durant leads the conference with 14 touchdowns and in receiving yards per game. He is also second to teammate Bobby Pospischil in receptions per game.

Durant and the Clan will play their final home game of the season on Saturday when they host first-place Humboldt State on Terry Fox Field at 2 p.m.

Soccer player Helge Neumann was also named a Red Lion player of the week on defence in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Neumann, a senior defender, led a Clan backline that allowed just one goal over two games this past weekend as SFU defeated Saint Martin's 7-1 last Thursday and Seattle Pacific 1-0 on Saturday.

The Clan clinched their third straight GNAC conference title after Thursday's win combined with Seattle Pacific's loss to Western Washington that evening.

Neumann has been a member of all three Clan Great Northwest championship teams.

Neumann and the Clan shut out their opponents eight times this season and lead the conference with a league-low 12 goals against.

The Clan will wrap up their regular season schedule this Sunday at Terry Fox Field when they host the Western Washington Vikings at 3 p.m.
