Clan clean up on golf awards

The Simon Fraser University golf team win player, rookie and coach of the year honours

Kevin Vigna led Simon Fraser University to a near clean sweep of major Great Northwest conference golf awards.

The second-year all-star was named the NCAA Division II conference player of the year, while also joining three of his teammates on the first all-conference team announced Tuesday.

Freshman of the year Chris Crisologo was also a first-team choice along with Clan teammates Bret Thompson and John Mlikotic.

Clan coach John Buchanan was selected the coach of the year by his peers.

The four SFU golfers led the Great Northwest with four of the five lowest average rounds, while combining for 12 top-five finishes. As a team, SFU won three tournaments and finished runner-up in two others in nine invitationals.

In women’s golf, SFU freshman Breanna Croxen earned a spot on the all-conference second team, finishing in the top five in two tournaments.
