Simon Fraser University clinched its third straight Great Northwest conference men's soccer title following a 7-1 victory over Saint Martin's last Thursday.
Justin Wallace opened the scoring in the sixth minute with his eighth tally of the year and the Clan kept piling it on to boast a 5-1 lead at the interval.
Ryan Dhillon potted a pair of markers five minutes apart early on before Carlo Basso counted his league-leading 13th goal of the season in the 26th minute.
Alex Rowley also scored in the first half, making the score 5-0 in the 40th minute.
Saints got one back just before half time, but SFU added two more goals in the second half from Joel Malouf and Colby Liston to improve the Clan's record to 14-1-1 and clinch a third consecutive conference title for the Clan after the University of Western Washington upset second-place Seattle Pacific 3-1 later in the day.
"Our squad turned in a very good performance today," said SFU head coach Alan Koch in a school press release. "Ryan Dhillon and Justin Wallace were flying when they were on the pitch and a great first 30 minutes set the tone for a pleasing performance."
On Saturday, SFU won its 15th game of the year following John Hodnett's goal in extra time earned the Clan a 1-0 win over Seattle Pacific.
Hodnett came off the bench to score the overtime winner in the seventh minute of extra time with his sixth goal of the campaign.
"I wasn't overly happy with our performance tonight, but was very happy with the character shown to get a tough result on the road," said Koch.
The Clan will play their final regular season game against Western Washington at home on Sunday, Nov. 4. The game is scheduled for Terry Fox Field at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
A sad finish
The Clan's women's soccer team finished up a disappointing season with a pair of shutout losses.
SFU was blanked 4-0 by Seattle Pacific in their home finale last Thursday. Seattle Pacific did all the damage in the first half.
Amanda Gilliland made nine saves in the Clan net, while putting six shots on target at the other end of the pitch.
On Saturday, SFU fell 5-0 to Central Washington on the road.
Gilliland was busy again in goal making eight stops.
With the loss, SFU finished the season with a record of 1-16-0, including an 0-14-0 record in Great Northwest conference play.
