The Simon Fraser University hockey club took three of a possible four points against the Trinity Western Spartans last week.

The B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League leaders defeated the Spartans 6-2 in Langley, before suffering a 4-3 loss in a shootout in the rematch in Burnaby last Saturday.

SFU played catchup all game long in the latter matchup, despite outshooting the Langley club 41-20.

Trent Murdoch sent the game into overtime with his third goal of the year in the final minute of the third period.

In Langley, the Clan had little difficulty scoring, jumping out to a 2-0 first-period lead before building a 5-0 advantage midway through the final frame.

Trevor Esau tallied a pair of counters, including the game-winning marker midway through the middle period on a power play.

Tyler Mah, Jono Ceci and Aaron Enns chipped in with two assists apiece. Andrew Parent kicked out 27 shots for the win.

SFU plays Thompson Rivers this Saturday at the Copeland centre at 7 p.m.
