Division II Simon Fraser University missed a chance to upset a NCAA Div. I university women's basketball team in Seattle.
The Clan led for most of the contest but blew the lead in the final four minutes to fall 72-69 to the Seattle University Redbirds on Nov. 1.
Kristina Collins and Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe led the SFU women with 14 points apiece. Raincock-Ekunwe also led all players with 12 rebounds and the Clan with six assists. She also had a team-high four blocks for the visitors.
Carla Wyman chipped in with a dozen points and a Clan-best three steals.
SFU ended the first half on a 16-2 run and led 31-26 at the interval.
With less than four minutes left to play, the Clan led Seattle 67-57, but a late 15-2 run by the Redbirds in the final minutes stole the win away from SFU.
"It really hurt us that they got 19 from the line and that we only shot two free throws in the last nine seconds of the game," said SFU head coach Bruce Langford in a school press release.
SFU will start the non-conference portion of its schedule on Friday, when they open the Disney Tip-Off Classic tournament in Anaheim, California against Grand Canyon University. The Clan will also face West Texas A&M and Cal-San Diego on the weekend.
