Simon Fraser University freshman infielder Taylor Lundrigan was among 17 players selected to represent Team Canada on the national junior women’s fastpitch team.
The team was selected following a series of three regional identification camps, as well as a final selection camp in Cloverdale.
The Canadian junior women’s team is currently competing in the Future’s Gold division at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship currently taking place in Surrey, before competing at the Junior World Softball Championship in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from August 9 to 15.
“The coaching staff and I are extremely pleased with the outcome of this year’s final selection camp” said Melissa Basilio, head coach of the Canadian junior women’s team in a prepared release. “We have a well-rounded group of athletes and look forward to working with them over the next few weeks as we prepare for the WBSC Junior Women’s World Softball Championship in Oklahoma City.”
Lundrigan finished second on the Clan team in batting (.327) and led the SFU with 48 hits. The Abbotsford product was also second with four home runs in 48 games this season. Lundrigan finished two hits short of the Clan freshman record of 50 hits set by Angela Lichty in 1999.
SFU freshmen Taylor Gillis and Katherine Murnaghan, and incoming recruit Samantha Ruffe,t were among the final 28 players competing for a spot on the team.
