Clan get first NCAA grid win

Simon Fraser University made varsity football history with its first-ever win in NCAA. The Clan defeated Pacific University 36-28 to pickup its landmark victory on the road in Forest Grove, Oregon on Saturday.

The Clan defeated Pacific University 36-28 to pickup its landmark victory on the road in Forest Grove, Oregon on Saturday.

SFU running back Bo Palmer rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns, including SFU's first major of the game on a 23-yard scamper.

The visitors trailed Pacific 14-10 at half time and fell behind by 11 points after a 36-yard touchdown pass from T.C. Campbell to Jordan Fukumoto.

Pacific was poised to score a fourth time when a Campbell pass was intercepted by newly converted linebacker Adam Berger and taken 54 yards for a score.

Palmer then sparked a three-touchdown final quarter, taking a handoff 72 yards for a major to put SFU back into the lead.

Greg Bowcott replaced starting SFU QB Trey Wheeler and led the Clan to two more scores.

The first came on an eight-yard run. The second capped a seven-play, 50-yard march down field with Bowcott scoring from two yards out.

SFU rushed for 259 yards in the comeback win, 145 yards coming in the final quarter.

SFU hosts conference foe Western Oregon at Terry Fox Field on Saturday, Sept. 10. Game time is 2 p.m.
