Competing in high winds, the Simon Fraser University track and field team met several Great Northwest Athletic Conference and one NCAA qualifying standard at the Ken Shannon Invitational meet hosted by the University of Washington Huskies last Saturday.

The women's 4x400-metre relay team of Chantel Desch, Sarah Sawatzky, Michaela Kane and Helen Crofts came in just under the automatic standard for the NCAA championship, winning the race in a time of 3:42.53.

In the women's 100m hurdles, Andrea Abrams posted an automatic conference qualifying time of 14.66, finishing fifth in her section.

Travis Vugteveen set the automatic time in the men's 1500m, running in a time of 3:54.18.

In the men's 800m, Cameron Proceviat of Burnaby just missed the automatic standard, finishing seventh in his section with a time of 1:54.00.

Senior Zach Conard met the provisional conference standard on Saturday with a time 50.68 in the 400m dash.

In the men's 400m hurdles, Jesse Lynch posted a provisional qualifying time at 56.58, finishing fourth.

With an NCAA provisional qualifying distance already recorded earlier this season, Jade Richardson won the women's discus competition with a throw of 43.24 metres and on the track, Kansas Mackenzie and Peggy Noel both ran provisional qualifying times in the 800m, with times of 2:15.91 and 2:18.47, respectively.

The SFU track and field teams will be back in action next weekend in Monmouth, Oregon, when they compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships.
