Simon Fraser University has a mountain to climb in its B.C. Intercollegiate hockey final against Selkirk College this weekend.
The Clan club team advanced to the best-of-three playoff final series with back-to-back wins over Thompson Rivers University last week.
SFU opened with a 6-1 win over the Kamloops club at home last Friday before heading up the Coquihalla for a 5-2 series-ending win on the Saturday.
SFU scoring leader Ben Van Lare was named the first star in both games, scoring twice, including the eventual game-winner, in the opening game at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre, while assisting on three scores in the away matchup.
Jono Ceci also picked up a couple of second star nods in the playoff semifinals following a four-point contribution.
Team captain Christopher Hoe counted three points last weekend, including the opening marker in Kamloops that sparked SFU to a 5-0 lead.
Midseason addition Brendan Silvester, who scored 14 times in as many games after his January arrival, tallied a single counter in each of the team's two wins last week.
The Clan will need all their firepower and more to prevent Selkirk from a first-ever B.C. intercollegiate title. The West Kootenay club defeated SFU in all four regular season meetings.
The best-of-three finals get underway Friday, with Game 2 slated for Saturday. If necessary, a Game 3 will be played on Sunday.
