The Simon Fraser University men's hockey team will play an eightgame preseason exhibition schedule, beginning today in Coquitlam.

The defending B.C. Intercollegiate league champions take on the B.C. Hockey League Coquitlam Express at the Poirier Leisure Centre at 7 p.m.

The following Friday, SFU travels to Merritt for a tilt with the junior A Centennials.

SFU returns home the following day to host Trinity Western at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.

The Clan will also host the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL at the Copeland centre on Sept. 17 and Thompson Rivers University on Sept. 24. Both games are 7 p.m. starts.

The Clan program recently added Jim Camazzola as an assistant coach for the upcoming intercollegiate season.

The Burnaby-born Camazzola will be primarily responsible for working with the team's defencemen.

Camazzola was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1982 after starring with the Kamloops Oilers and New Westminster Bruins during a Western Hockey League career that saw him named to the all-star team at the 1984 Memorial Cup.

The Burnaby Winter Club product made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks in 1986 and went on to play three seasons in the American and International hockey leagues before moving to Europe, where he spent 14 professional seasons in Italy and Germany before retiring as a player.

Camazzola has since held head coaching positions with Asiago HC in Italy's Serie A and with the junior B Delta Icehawks.

"Jim's experience, knowledge and ability to communicate with players make him a valuable and welcome addition to our coaching team," said SFU head coach Mark Coletta in a team press release. "His guidance will be a key to the success of our group of six freshmen defenceman, and personally I look forward to working closely with Jim as we begin the process of shaping a competitive team for another run at a BCIHL Championship."
