Simon Fraser University made program history at the NCAA Division II track and field championships.
Freshman Oliver Jorgensen became the first male athlete from SFU to compete at the NCAA outdoor championships.
Unfortunately, the first-year long-distance runner was tripped up while leading in heat of the 3,000 metre steeplechase, aggravating an earlier ankle injury.
Although Jorgensen managed to regain the lead, the conference steeplechase champion could not hold onto the lead, eventually finishing outside the final qualifying times.
In the women's 800m, SFU senior Sarah Sawatzky narrowly missed a chance in the final, finishing one second shy of a spot in the final nine.
Sawatzky finished her heat in fourth place in a time of 2:10.55.
"It's not what she wanted for her final race with us but she gave it everything she had," said SFU head coach Brit Townsend.
The race was the final competition for the Clan senior. Sawatzky ran a season-best time of 2:09.15 on April 4.
Sawatzky narrowly missed winning the conference outdoor 800m final, following an earlier title in the indoor 800m in February.
