Simon Fraser University finished second to a powerful Alaska Anchorage team at the Great Northwest conference cross-county championships.
Lindsay Butterworth led the Clan with a fifth-place finish in the women's six-kilometre final at Monmouth, Oregon.
Susan Tanui of Anchorage won the conference women's individual title with a 20: 37.29 clocking, 40 seconds faster than Butterworth, who was sandwiched in between five other Alaska runners.
Freshman runners Kansas Mackenzie and Peggy Noel placed ninth and 10th, respectively, for the women's Clan.
The three Clan runners all earned all-conference status following the race.
Kirsten Allen and Michaela Kane finished 19th and 20th, respectively, to add to SFU's 61 point team total. Sarah Sawatsky was one second behind in 21st position.
The finish was SFU's second consecutive runner-up finish at the conference championships in as many years.
"I am happy with the results and overall we had solid performances today," said SFU head coach Brit Town send in a press release. "Our freshman on both sides performed well and really stepped up."
Also competing were Emma Chadsey, Helen Crofts, Leah Regan and Killarney grad Tanya Humeniuk, who all placed among the top 65 runners.
In the men's division, Adam Reid led the Clan team to sixth place overall following an individual 16th-place finish in a time of 25: 48.86 in the 8km final. Not far behind was Timo Hoberg in 21st position.
Lawrence Viola, Cameron Proceviat of Burnaby, in 49th place, and Brendan Wong scored points towards SFU's team aggregate.
SFU will compete at the West Regional championships in Hawaii on Nov. 3.
