Simon Fraser University improved its record to 4-0 in pre-season men's soccer.

The Clan got goals from six different players en route to a 6-0 victory over Trinity Lutheran University on Wednesday.

On a down note, SFU lost the services of sophomore defender Kyle Knees, who suffered a broken leg during the match.

Goalie Hide Ozawa recorded the shutout in his first start of the season.

Josh Bennett got SFU on the board early, while Farhad Abdulgani potted the Clan's second goal of the game just minutes after that. John Hodnett, Carlo Basso, Joseph Martin and Carson Gill also scored.

On the weekend, Basso converted an early penalty kick and SFU hung on to the lead for a 1-0 victory over the Grand Canyon University Antelopes in Lacey, Washington on Saturday.

Basso's goal came in the 10th minute of play.

The win was the first NCAA victory for any Clan team against an opponent ranked in the top-10 in the nation. It was also the first loss this season for the Antelopes.

"This was a very good game between two top NCAA soccer teams," said SFU head coach Alan Koch in a prepared press release. "It would have been nice to capitalize on some opportunities early, but our back four of Carson Gill, Matt Besuschko, Anthony DiNicolo and Marco Voegeli were very good in the second half to preserve the win."

Grand Canyon outshot SFU 13 to 11 in the match.

SFU opens its Great Northwest conference schedule against Western Washington University at Terry Fox Field on Sunday. Game time is 2 p.m.
