Clan softball team hits seven-game streak

The Simon Fraser University softball team are on a seven-game winning streak, with three wins at the SFU Invitational Tournament at Beedie Field this weekend.

The Simon Fraser University softball team are on a seven-game winning streak, with three wins at the SFU Invitational Tournament at Beedie Field this weekend.

The Clan beat the University of Great Falls Argonauts twice, 7-1 on Saturday and 11-1 on Sunday, before defeating the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 8-0.

"We needed to come out and play strong this weekend," SFU catcher and Burnaby resident Brittany Ribeiro said in a press release.

Clan ace Cara Lukawesky saw her first action of the weekend against UBC on Sunday afternoon, pitching five shutout innings and allowing just two hits to improve her record to 13-3.

In the Clan's first game on Sunday, Kelsie Hawkins got her second start of the weekend against the Argos, allowing just one earned run in four innings of work to pick up her eighth win of the season.

The Clan offence scored early and often, with five runs in the first and another five in the second inning.

Rain on Saturday afternoon forced a cancellation of SFU's first scheduled game against UBC.

The Clan travel to Monmouth, Oregon this weekend to meet the Western Oregon Wolves in doubleheaders, Saturday and Sunday.
