Clan track athletes make qualifying standards

Simon Fraser University athletes made qualifying standards at three track and field events in California.

Ryan Brockerville met NCAA provincial standard time in the men's steeplechase following a personal-best clocking of 8:53.65 at the Mount Sac Relays last week.

Brockerville later ran a PB time of 3:51.17 in the metric mile at the Azusa Pacific Invitational. Both results qualified Brockerville for the Great Northwest conference championships.

Adam Reid also turned in a couple of personal bests to also qualify to the conference championships in middle distance races at Azusa Pacific. Later at the Long Beach Invite, Reid bettered his 800-metre time with a 1:53.17 finish.

Travis Vugteveen also qualified in the 800m with a 1:53.64 time at Azusa Pacific.

Lindsey Butterworth led the women's team with back-to-back PBs, clocking a 2:09.94 in the 800m at Mount Sac, while finishing the 1,500m in 4:29.60 at Long Beach. Both times met conference and NCAA qualifying requirements.

Burnaby South grad Abbey Vogt also set a personal best in the 800m, while Sarah Sawatzky did the same in the 400-m hurdles.

Aisha Klippenstein and Charlotte Crombeen both set best times in the 100-m hurdles.
