Simon Fraser University made NCAA history by becoming the first non-American school to win an NCAA national tournament game.

The Clan edged California State Stanislaus 2-1 with a come-from-behind effort in the second round of the NCAA Division II playdowns at Hayward, California on Saturday.

The victory put SFU through to the final 16 at the NCAA nationals.

Trailing 1-0 after the opening half, Justin Wallace tied the score in the 52nd minute, knocking in his own rebound that clanged off the goal post on an initial shot from 12 yards out.

Ten minutes later, J.D. Blakley, who was victimized on the opening Stanislaus goal in the first half, made up for it with a super stop from in close on a one-on-one encounter.

"I think our guys showed an immense amount of character tonight," said Clan head coach Alan Koch in a Clan press release. "We just told them at halftime not to push the panic button."

Almost immediately following Blakley's big stop, Lucas Ferritto took a shot from in close and then got his foot on the rebound to score the eventual game-winner.

Blakley's spectacular save to keep the score knotted at 1-1 was one of five he made in the match.

"We came out strong, and we fought for everything," said Blakley in the release.

"It was a team effort, and after we got the first goal, we just built off of it. I give all the credit to my teammates. They don't make me work too hard, and I owe the success to them."

The win advanced the No. 1 West Region seeded Clan into the final 16, where SFU will face the Grand Canyon University Antelopes in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday.
