Amelia Ng made six saves to earn her first shutout and the Simon Fraser University women's soccer team's first win of the season.

The varsity Clan blanked Thompson Rivers University WolfPack 2-0 on goals by April Coffin and Jessica Hadden at Terry Fox field on Sunday.

"I was quite pleased with our overall team shape today. We had two even halves of soccer and we were a couple of steps away from putting a few more away," said SFU head coach Shelley Howieson in a prepared press release.

Coffin got the gamewinner in the opening half, scoring off a crossing pass from Karm Jawandha.

Hadden tallied her second goal of the season, lofting the ball over the WolfPack keeper in a strong 14-shot second half for the Clan.

A day earlier, Burnaby South Secondary grad Amy Lawrence scored the game's only goal to give the University of Victoria a 1-0 win over the host Clan in SFU's home opener on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, Ng started the final period off well, stopping Victoria's Emma Greig and Maryse Reichgeld on partial breakaways.

SFU's Ali Trenter had a couple of opportunities to score, but was stopped each time by UVic keeper Steph Park.

Lawrence capitalized in the 89th minute for the visitors, scoring on a rebound off a blocked shot.

The Clan will open its NCAA Divsion II conference schedule against Central Washington University at Terry Fox Field on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
