Clan women just miss date at NCAA cross-country

The Clan women finished sixth at the NCAA west regional championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Saturday. The top five teams advance to the nationals.

Freshman Peggy Noel was the Clan's best, placing 18th in the women's six-kilometre race in a time of 22:25.25, while fellow first-year runner Kansas Mackenzie finished two spots back in 20th place.

Junior Kirstin Allen placed 40th overall, Sarah Sawatzky was 43rd and Michaela Kane also garnered team points with a 58th-place run.

Susan Tanui of Alaska Anchorage won the women's competition.

Adam Reid was the top runner for the Clan men's team that placed 13th overall. Reid finished in 42nd place in the men's 10km in a time of 37:06.75.

Travis Vugteveen, Timo Hoberg and Lawrence Viola all finished in the top 100 to score points for the Clan. Cameron Proceviat of Burnaby placed 96th and Brendan Wong came in in the 100th spot.

Micah Chelimo of Anchorage won the men's individual title. Chico State won both the men's and women's team titles.
