The Mayville State University Comets men’s baseball team was eliminated
from the NAIA national championship tournament last week when they fell 4-2 to the College of Idaho.
Mayville wrapped up the season with a 49-12 record, ranked 22nd in the college circuit.
A day earlier, the Comets out-hit Campbellsville University but dropped a 3-2 decision in the double-knockout tourney.
Burnaby’s Taylor Lawrence swatted a two-run double to give the Comets a temporary 2-1 lead. Campbellsville countered with two in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with the win.
Lawrence ended his Comets’ career with a .338 batting average and a slugging percentage of .620. Prior to making the jump to Mayville, Lawrence was a standout with the Douglas College Royals.
