The Simon Fraser University men's soccer team added NCAA Division I transfer goalkeeper Scott Shewfelt to its lineup.

Shewfelt, who played last season with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, is a native of London, Ont.

"I'm eager to join the squad at Simon Fraser University," said Shewfelt. "I look forward to being able to work hard and contribute towards a run for the NCAA championship in the fall. This is a great program with an experienced coaching staff that has history of success and I can hardly wait to be a part of it all."

In 2012, Shewfelt was a member of a Coastal Carolina team that boasted a 20-3-2 overall record and made it all the way to the Sweet 16.

In Big South conference regular season play, Coastal Carolina reigned as champions with a 16-1-2 record. He also earned a conference defensive player of the week honour on one occasion.

Shewfelt spent the previous two seasons at Schoolcraft College, where he was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America junior college All-American in 2011.

His team was Region 12 champions with a perfect 22-0-0 record. Shewfelt posted a 0.28 goals against average that season.

Locally, he played in Ontario with Forest City London in the professional development league in 2012, when the team won the North American championship.

In 2011, he was named the Ontario Soccer Association's goalkeeper of the year.

"Scott is a keeper with some incredibly diverse experiences," said Clan head coach Alan Koch. "He has all the physical tools to be successful with our program. I am excited for him to come finish his college career with us, and of course earn his SFU degree. He has the potential to win some big games for us this fall."

Shewfelt will join the Clan this August, when training camp begins at Terry Fox Field on Burnaby Mountain. More SFU recruits will be announced in the coming days.
