Eleven Simon Fraser University student-athletes were named recipients of a Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
The achievement award is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the NCAA Div. 2 level.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have completed a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and be a member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
"These individuals excel in competition, and in the classroom," said SFU senior director of athletics and recreation Milton Richards. "They truly represent what it means to be a student-athlete. Recognizing and honouring individuals for their work in the classroom is important and these student-athletes have made their school and their community proud."
The women's basketball and track and field teams each had a pair of representatives, while men's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's swimming, men's cross country, men's wrestling and volleyball each had a single award winner.
A total of six Great Northwest Athletic Conference schools were represented.
In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Div. II institution must be a dues paying member of the DII ADA.
