First-year Douglas College Royals left-side hitter Antonia Vanderbrink was named the PacWest women’s volleyball player of the week.
The 6-0 Vernon native had two strong outings for the Royals in back-to-back 3-1 wins over College of the Rockies last weekend to secure Douglas a spot in the upcoming provincial championships.
Vanderbrink recorded 24 per cent of her team’s points in the opening game, registering 14 kills and two service aces, while hitting a .353 percentage. She also added a solo block and two digs in the win.
In the return match, Vandebrink served up four aces on 21 attempts and recorded 10 kills in the four-set win.
“Toni is in her rookie year and led her team this weekend to a sweep weekend, where we sealed our playoff spot,” said Royals coach Kyra Iannone in a PacWest press release. “She is peaking at the right time and being a huge impact player for us.”
