The Northwest Giants put some more space between themselves and the idle Okanagan Rockets with a weekend series win over the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

The Giants opened their B.C. Major Midget Hockey League weekend with a 7-2 victory over the T-Birds in Chilliwack on Saturday before eking out a 3-2 decision over Fraser Valley at the Burnaby Winter Club on Sunday.

Brandon Del Grosso helped spark the Giants' road win with a three-point outing, including the first of his two goals coming in the first period.

At home, Jarid Lukosevicius scored the game-winner in the final three minutes of play.

This weekend, the Langley Events Centre will play host to 10 league teams, including the league's all-star game, which will kick off the scheduled matchups on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Giants take on the Thompson Blazers on Saturday and Sunday.
