Kimberly Newell of Burnaby recorded her first international shutout to pace Canada's under-18 women's hockey team to a 4-0 win over Finland on Dec. 30.
The win was the second in a row for Canada and first for the Princeton University freshman at the World u-18 women's hockey championships in Finland.
On Saturday, Canada defeated Hungary 4-1 in its opening Pool A matchup. The Canadians take on Germany on New Year's Day.
Canada warmed up for the worlds with a 4-3 overtime shootout win over the C2 Pojat Blues, a Finnish boys' team equivalent to a bantam-level team in Canada.
Newell and Jessica Dodds shared the goalminding duties, combining to stop 42 shots in regulation and overtime.
Canada won last year's u-18 world championship in the Czech Republic.
