Five Simon Fraser University athletes qualified for the Great Northwest conference championships following the opening indoor track and field meet of 2013.
Helen Crofts posted a provisional NCAA Division II mark in the women's 800 metres, placing third in the event in Seattle with a time of 2: 10.71 to automatically qualify for the conference championships.
Crofts was later named the Great Northwest conference track athlete of the week.
Her time in the 800m was a fraction behind the automatic national standard and five seconds faster than the conference mark.
Clan teammate Michaela Kane and Sarah Sawatsky finished fourth and ninth, respectively, in the 800m.
Freshman Kim Neville-Rutherford qualified in the high jump in her first-ever meet with the Clan, clearing the bar at 1.57 metres. She also had a provisional qualifying time in the 60m hurdles at 9.69 seconds.
Lindsay Butterworth also gained an automatic qualifying time in the women's mile, placing eighth in a time of 5: 05.41.
Nine other Clan athletes made provisional standards for the conference championships, including hurdlers Andrea Abrams and Charlotte Crombeen.
Others included miler Kristen Allen, Kansas Mackenzie in the 800m and freshman sprinter Chantal Desch.
On the men's side, Luca Molinari of Burnaby and Keir Forster had the highest placements for SFU, both finishing 11th in their individual events.
Molinari posted a provisional standard in the weight throw.
Seniors Adam Reid and James Young also posted provisional times in the men's mile.
Cameron Proceviat of Burnaby was the lone SFU qualifier in the 800m in a time of 1: 58.35.
SFU's women's 4x400m relay team of Desch, Crofts, Kane and Sawatsky placed second.
