Northwest Giants forward Justin Szeto committed to NCAA Division I Harvard University in 2015.
The 17 year-old Szeto will be playing junior A hockey this fall with the Langley Rivermen of the B.C. Hockey League after a spectacular season with the BC Major Midget League's Giants, where he led the team in scoring with 77 points, and the entire league with 52 assists.
"I'm super excited. It came together pretty quickly this past weekend and I couldn't be happier with how things have materialized," said Szeto in a press release.
"The feeling was always there that I wanted to compete and get an education from an Ivy League school and there's no better way to do that than through Harvard."
"Justin was one of the first players that caught my attention when I started with the Rivermen, he's a very intelligent hockey player," said assistant coach and director of player personnel, Kurt Astle.
"Getting to know Justin over the years, I have been impressed with the work he puts in during the off season and away from the rink. He has always been an honour student and we are fortunate to have Justin represent the Rivermen."
Heading into his final year of high school this fall, securing his longer-term future now also allows him to focus on shifting to the BCHL and his Grade 12 year.
"It's been a busy summer, I've been training hard and I'm looking forward to moving out and billeting and getting used to Langley," he said.
