A four-game losing streak is in the rearview mirror, thanks to a strong weekend for Burnaby’s Christian Buono.

The one-time Burnaby Winter Club sniper counted four goals for the Vancouver Northwest Giants in a pair of wins over the rival Vancouver Northeast Chiefs.

On Saturday, Buono opened the scoring 12 seconds into the second period, and tallied again 12 minutes later as part of a five-goal outburst. They would go on to win 6-1.

A day later, the slick centre potted a pair in a 5-2 victory.

Also contributing a goal Sunday was Burnaby defenceman Jason Chu, while teammate Alek Sukunda added a pair of assists.

A second-year player with the Giants, Buono leads the team in scoring with 11 goals and seven assists in 12 games. Chu sits second in team scoring with two goals and 12 assists.

The 8-4 Giants, who draw players from Burnaby and West and North Vancouver, venture to Kamloops to play the Blazers this weekend.

The Chiefs, with a player territory of east Burnaby, New West, the Tri-Cities and Ridge Meadows, sit sixth in the league at 5-6-1.
