Giants extend league lead, take on OK Rockets next

The Northwest Giants moved to 16 games without a loss following a two-game sweep over the Kootenay Ice. The Giants blanked the Ice in both encounters in Castlegar last weekend, taking the opener 5-0 before winning the rematch by an 8-0 score.

Jackson Cressey and Jansen Harkins moved into the top five in major midget league scoring, with six and five points, respectively, in the two-game set.

Cressey led the scoring, tallying two goals and one assist in both games.

Harkins, who leads the team with 21 assists, scored his fifth goal of the season in the 8-0 win. He had a pair of goals in the earlier shutout over the Ice.

Jarid Lukosevicius, who is currently second in overall league scoring with 13 goals and 18 assists, had a goal and two helpers on the Sunday.

Also moving into the top 15 in league scoring was Anthony Conti, with a three-point effort against the Ice.

The pair of wins gave the 15-0-1 Giants a five-point lead over second-place Cariboo.

The third-place Okanagan Rockets come to the Burnaby Winter Club this weekend for a two-game series against the No. 1 Giants.

The two teams faceoff against each other on Saturday, beginning at 7: 45 p.m. The Giants and Rockets play again on Sunday morning at 9: 30 a.m. at the winter club.
