Giants off to fast start in exhibition

The Burnaby Winter Club-based Giants are currently 5-1 in exhibition play, heading into this weekend's pre-season showcase at Centre Ice in Abbotsford.

The four-team series kicks off on Friday with the Northeast Chiefs playing the Greater Vancouver Canadians at 7: 15 p.m.

The Giants versus the newly tagged Fraser Valley Thunderbirds follows.

On the Saturday, the Giants face the Chiefs at 7: 30 p.m.

On the final day, the Giants take on the Canadians in a nooner, beginning at 12: 30 p.m.

"I think with the group I've got - it will be a good season for us," said incoming Giants head coach Clint Thornton, a former assistant coach with the Giants who took over from Todd Harkins.

The Giants end their pre-season exhibition season with a home and-home series against Greater Vancouver on Sept. 14 and 15, beginning with a home outing on the Friday at the Burnaby Winter Club, scheduled for 9 p.m.

The Giants will kick off their regular season in Victoria against the renamed midget Royals, following a three-year deal with the WHL club.
