The Northwest Giants will finish on top of the B.C. Major Midget hockey league at the holiday break, despite what happens this weekend.

The Giants will travel to Prince George this weekend for a two-game series against the third-place Cariboo Cougars.

The Cougars trail the Giants by six points in the standings and are just two shy of the second-place Okanagan Rockets.

The Burnaby-based Giants kept ahead of the pack with a weekend sweep of the South Island Royals at Burnaby Winter Club last week.

Todd Cole got the game-winning goal for the Giants in last Saturday's 5-3 win over the Royals.

Jarid Lukosevicius padded his team-leading 17th goal of the season with his third of the series and game-winner in a 5-2 win on Sunday.

Eric Margo and Anthony Conti both had a goal and two assists in the win Sunday, while Jackson Cressey added one goal and a single helper. Jansen Harkins chipped in two assists.

In the opening game, Conti assisted on the Giants' first three goals of the game. Zach Landon and Harkins also combined for four helpers between them.

Rookie goalie Bo Didur continues to lead the league with a 2.00 goals against average.
