Eight Simon Fraser University Clan student/athletes were honoured with Great Northwest Athletic Conference Faculty Athletic Representative Awards.
Three of the eight Clan athletes boasted a grade-point average more than 4.00.
Headlining the Clan's honourees is Nicole Cossey, who was named SFU’s Female Athlete of the Year and was also the department's top scholar athlete. She qualified for the NCAA championship and earned All-American status twice.
The junior boasts a grade-point average of 3.86 in applied mathematics.
Repeat honourees included track and field athlete Lorenzo Smith, who has a 4.22 GPA in biomedical physiology, diver Elizabeth Durward, who has a 3.94 GPA in engineering science, golfer Mackenzie Field, who has a 4.01 GPA in chemistry, molecular biology & biochemistry and women's basketball player Ariana Sider from New Westminster with a GPA of 3.90 in kinesiology.
Newcomers to this year's award are SFU football player Jordan Herdman, with a 3.99 grade point average in physics, wrestling's Madeline Milsip, who a boasts a 4.16 GPA in business and Clan volleyball player Kelsey Robinson, who owns a 3.87 GPA in biological sciences.
It is the second year the award has been presented.
The award is presented annually to the most outstanding scholar/athletes at each of the GNAC’s 10 universities.
To qualify for the award, a student/athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.85. All student-athletes listed on any GNAC squad list, regardless of whether the sport is an officially recognized sport by the GNAC, are eligible for the award.
