Heights businesses backing local racer's dreams

Running a race car isn't cheap, but two local North Burnaby businesses are helping one of their own.

Running a race car isn't cheap, but two local North Burnaby businesses are helping one of their own.

Remo Ruscitti, 17 and currently a senior at Notre Dame, started racing go-karts at the tender age of eight and became one of the Top 5 North American Go-Kart Drivers (Stars of Karting), years before being able to obtain his official driver's license.

Ruscitti, who hopes to one day race Formula 1 cars - witness his brush with Michael Schumacher - must first prove himself in the Grand Am Road Racing Series.

With 12 races per year at a significant cost to attend, he is always seeking out sponsors and fundraisers wherever he can.

Riding to the rescue are two prominent North Burnaby businesses.

Cioffi's Deli, together with Burgers Etc. BBQ House, are working to help the local driver realize his dream of becoming a professional race car driver.

Until the end of November, Burgers Etc. will donate $1 from every burger sold to help raise funds for Ruscitti. Raffle tickets for a meat platter, at $2 per ticket, will also be sold at the restaurant to raise additional funds. Cioffi's supplies meat to Burgers Etc. and is fully supportive of the endeavour.

Donations can also be made through Ruscitti's Paypal account via his website at www.remo ruscitti.com.

"Burnaby Heights is a great community to live and work in, and we believe that the community will come together to help this amazing 17 year-old realize his dreams," said Mary Levesque, director of administration at Burgers Etc.

Burgers Etc. BBQ House is located at 4091 Hastings St.
