Ice dancers third at Grand Prix figure skate opener

Pang and Edwards finished in third place with a two-day 113.73 points total in the junior ice dance at the Grand Prix event in Courchevel, France on Saturday.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France won the event following the free dance with a combined 131.13 score. The Russian pairing of Valeria Zenkova and Valerie Sintsin took the silver with a 124.94 score.

Pang and Edwards' score was below their best 122.90 total skated at a junior grand prix event in Austria last year.

In the junior men's competition, Nam Nguyen of Burnaby finished ninth overall.

Three other Burnaby figure skaters were also given international assignments this season.

Timothy Lum and partner Noa Bruser are in Lake Placid, New York beginning today for a junior Grand Prix ice dance competition.

Simon Fraser University student Jeremy Ten will skate at the U.S. senior internationals in September.

Nicole Orford of Burnaby and ice dance partner Thomas Williams will compete in two international events - the Cup of Russia on Nov. 9 to 11 and the NHK Trophy in Sendai, Japan on Nov. 23 to 25.
